En 1906 se dieron dos de los acontecimientos más importantes de la historia de la ciudad algecireña: la Conferencia Internacional de Algeciras sobre Marruecos y la creación de la Junta de Obras del Puerto, que abrió las puertas de la modernidad a una ciudad sin apenas infraestructuras e impulsó el Puerto de Algeciras.
